TCN Urges Bauchi To Speed Up Land For 2 New

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Bauchi Region, has appealed to the Bauchi State government to speed up land allocation for two proposed transmission substations in Alkaleri and Toro Local Government Areas.

The projects are expected to expand transmission capacity and improve bulk power supply across the state.

The acting general manager (Transmission), Bauchi Region, Engr. Muhammed Bello Ahmed, made the appeal during a courtesy visit to the State Ministry of Land and Survey on Monday, November 2, 2026. He stressed that timely land allocation is necessary for the projects to move forward.

Ahmed commended the state government for engaging host communities on the proposed projects. He also praised its enforcement of Right-of-Way (RoW) regulations to protect critical transmission infrastructure, particularly the removal of illegal structures beneath high-voltage transmission lines.

Responding, the permanent secretary of the Ministry, Shuaibu Alhaji Mohammed, assured TCN of the state government’s support for the substation projects. He reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to facilitating the land allocation process and pledged to strengthen security around critical transmission facilities.

The appeal follows recent investment in Bauchi’s transmission network. TCN commissioned a new 330/132/33kV transmission substation in Bauchi State on July 3, 2025. The project began in February 2022 and was carried out with the World Bank. The substation has two 150MVA power transformers and a 75MVA reactor, and it feeds the existing Bauchi 132/33kV substation.

TCN has said connecting the new substation to the 330kV Jos-Bauchi-Gombe line would let the Bauchi and Gombe substations serve as mutual backups during maintenance or faults.

Security around transmission assets in the state has also drawn attention. In July 2026, TCN said its security operatives foiled an attempted theft at the Bauchi 330/132kV substation on a Friday evening.
