Bauchi Recruits 1,500 Health Workers, Approves 136 Housing Units

The Bauchi State government has recruited 1,500 health workers following the lifting of the employment embargo, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Sani Muhammad Dambam, has disclosed.
Dambam made this known yesterday while receiving members of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Bauchi State chapter, who visited the Government House as part of activities marking the 2026 Physicians Week.
The commissioner commended the association for its continued contributions to healthcare delivery and medical outreach programmes in communities across the state.
He said the government recognised the vital role of medical practitioners in improving the health and well-being of residents, assuring the association of the administration’s commitment to strengthening the state’s healthcare system.
According to him, the government’s focus on the health sector reflects the priority Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has accorded healthcare delivery, particularly through the declaration of a state of emergency in the sector to address existing challenges.
Dambam also disclosed that the administration had improved the remuneration of health workers and introduced housing and car loan facilities as part of efforts to improve their welfare and enhance their professional effectiveness.
He urged physicians to pay attention to their personal health despite the demanding nature of their profession.
The commissioner advised medical practitioners to engage in regular physical exercise, undergo routine medical check-ups and maintain healthy lifestyles to safeguard their well-being.
Also speaking, the Chief Medical Director of Bauchi State Specialist Hospital, Prof. Abdulkadir Maigari, disclosed that Governor Mohammed had approved the construction of 136 housing units for health workers.
Maigari explained that the housing units would be made available to eligible health workers through a loan arrangement, describing the initiative as part of the government’s efforts to improve their welfare.
He assured the NMA of the state government’s readiness to support the association in advancing healthcare delivery and promoting professional practice across Bauchi State.
He invited the NMA to utilise the platform to educate residents on health-related issues, promote preventive healthcare and raise public awareness of medical conditions and healthy living.
