Oyo APC Chair Credits Tinubu for Better Electricity Supply
The All Progressives Congress in Oyo State has linked the recent upturn in electricity supply across Nigeria to President Bola Tinubu's push to rejuvenate vital areas of the economy. Moses Adeyemo, who chairs the party's Oyo chapter, made the remark on Tuesday while receiving the Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, at the APC Secretariat in Oke-Ado, Ibadan South-West Local Government Area.
Tegbe's visit was described as a thank-you tour. Adeyemo expressed optimism that the minister would meet the expectations of Nigerians, saying they deserve nothing less than the best.
In his words, Adeyemo said, "I want to attribute the improvement in the supply of electricity in Nigeria to the commitment of President Tinubu administration to the revival of all critical sectors of the economy, and as well believe that our Minister of Power, Tegbe would not disappoint Nigerians who deserved the best."
Tegbe took up the power portfolio in July 2026. He replaced Chief Bayo Adelabu, who stepped down after picking up an Expression of Interest Form to contest the Oyo governorship ahead of the 2027 election.
Speaking at the event, the minister thanked Tinubu for considering him capable of tackling the difficulties in the country's electricity sector. He also acknowledged several prominent Oyo State citizens, particularly APC stakeholders, who backed his appointment and offered him support and encouragement.
Tegbe said, "I did not expect the degree of support and enthusiasm which my first and second appointments by President Tinubu attracted from all APC leaders, members and supporters for certain political reasons, but I have come to realise that nothing is too much to be done for the progressive family and humanity as a whole. Particularly, I appreciate the current leadership of the party in the state for believing in us to deliver the good."
He added that the President is committed to resolving the problems in the power sector and that no effort is being spared to reach that target. According to him, Nigerians can attest to a noticeable improvement in electricity supply nationwide in recent weeks, though he admitted the country has not yet reached the level it aspires to in the global community.
Tegbe noted that numerous projects are underway across the country and that once most are finished, every region would enjoy steady power, making Nigerians proud of the Tinubu administration. He disclosed that within a few weeks, solar-powered street lights will be fully installed along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, while mini solar grids will be built in six different locations in Oyo State.
On the Ogbomoso project, the minister said it is close to completion, stating that the minor issues faced by the contractors have been resolved and that the entire project will be delivered soon. He also said the Saki project, intended to address long-standing power problems in the Oke-Ogun and Ibarapa areas, is receiving adequate attention.
Tegbe stressed that efforts will be intensified to secure Tinubu's re-election in 2027, adding that the party will also back all its candidates. He revealed that he has opened discussions with most of the aggrieved gubernatorial aspirants and expressed confidence that all disagreements will be settled shortly.
He further said, "We will work with all the support groups because we appreciate what they are doing in the interest of our great party and our dear country as patriots."
Among the party leaders at the gathering were Dr Taofeek Lamidi, Hon Fatai Adesina, Alhaji Lateef Ajiboye, Olawale Sadare, Hon Joshua Oyebamiji, Mr Tunde Oloyede, Comrade Olalekan Oladejo, Mr Sunday Babalola, Alhaji Mojeed Delesolu, Mr Sunday Aborisade, Ms Fatima Hassan, Mr Akanbi Elegbede, Alhaja Tinuade Adigun, Mr Lukman Owonikoko and Comrade Muse Osundara.
