Tinubu Returns to Lagos After Four-Week Working Vacation in Europe

President Bola Tinubu arrived back in Nigeria on Tuesday evening, closing out a four-week working vacation spent in Europe. The presidential jet, Nigerian Air Force 1, touched down at the presidential wing of Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos, at roughly 6:22pm, flying in from Paris, France.
At the airport to receive him were Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, Deputy Senate President Jibril Barau, and Dr Obafemi Hamzat, the APC governorship candidate in Lagos State.
Earlier on Tuesday, presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga had issued a statement saying the President's aircraft was due to land at Murtala Muhammed Airport later that day.
According to that statement, Tinubu opted to land in Lagos first as a mark of respect for Chief MKO Abiola, described as a martyr of Nigeria's democratic struggle. On Independence Day, the President is scheduled to attend the premiere of a film honouring Abiola, who won the June 1993 election, at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre in Iganmu, Lagos.
While in Lagos, Tinubu will spend several days holding strategic meetings with political leaders and associates as preparations for the 2027 elections get under way. He is expected to return to Abuja once those political engagements are concluded.
The President left Abuja on August 30, 2026, for the working vacation. He spent a week in London before travelling on to Paris. During his stay in the French capital, he attended a private dinner with President Emmanuel Macron and held meetings with business figures, among them Mr Vincent Bolloré of the Bolloré Group, whose media and digital holdings include Canal+, MultiChoice and Universal Music Group. On Monday, Tinubu also met with Femi Otedola, Chairman of First Holdings.
Last week, the President was present at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ogun State Government and DP World for the construction of a Gateway deep seaport in Ogun Waterside and the creation of a Blue Marine Economic Zone in the area. DP World, a major global ports and logistics operator, intends to invest $7 billion in the seaport and the economic zone.
