Members FG Committee On 37 Dead Miners Meet Families Of Victims Closed Door
The chairman and members of the federal government committee on the death of Miners in Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC are currently meeting with the families of the deceased and the survivors.
The 10 Man Committee was set up by the Minister of interior Hon wale Tunji ojo and Mr. Jonathan Kure a retired Deputy Director General of Department of State Security Service DSS was appointed as the chairman
The Committee had earlier met with the Governor of Niger state Mohammed Umaru Bago and the Emir of Minna Alhaji Umaru Farouk Bago and the chairman has assured that the outcome of the investigation will bring succour to the victims.
This is coming on the wheels of the rescheduled inaugural sitting of the judicial commission of inquiry set up by the Niger state government to complement the findings of the federal government on the order of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Mr. Kure, about 11 am today started a closed door session with the families and survivors after a team of forensic medical team did a week investigation into the materials obtained after the death of the 37 Miners.
The chairman of the committee has earlier disclosed during his meeting with the Emir and the Governor that the medical team of the committee has already commenced work immediately after the inauguration of the Committee so as not to miss some elements required for the investigation.
“I want to assure you that we will display the independent status that has been bestowed on us by making sure that justice is done” he assured
Meanwhile the committee went into a closed door session without the media in what the Secretary to the Niger state Government SSG said was a fact finding session with the families that should not be opened to the public until receipt of Memorandum from the public that was opened on Monday was concluded.
It is expected that when both Nigeria senate and House representative members resume the issue of the dead 37 miners will top the agenda and may rely on the findings of the committee to further legislate on the lingering issues of illegal mining artisanal mining as well as the role of foreign mercenaries
