NYSC DG Nafiu Urges Corps Members to Diversify Income Sources

Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has called on corps members to broaden their sources of income, noting that depending on one stream of earnings may not cover their daily requirements.

Nafiu gave the advice while speaking to members of the 2026 Batch C Stream One at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Anambra State, according to a post shared on the scheme's official X account on Monday.

He encouraged the corps members to use the service year to gain useful skills, cultivate an entrepreneurial outlook and pursue lawful avenues for financial advancement.

The Director-General also advised them to form enduring relationships that would outlast the service year and to take advantage of business opportunities available for building wealth.

"Open your eyes, make friends and leverage comparative advantage. Buy shares for long-term investments," he said.

Nafiu further urged the corps members to embrace hard work and to acquire as many skills as possible while they are still young.

He encouraged them to make meaningful contributions to their host communities and to take pride in the teaching profession by passing knowledge to residents of the communities where they would serve.

In her camp situation report, the NYSC Anambra State Coordinator, Mrs Pauline Ojisua, said 1,623 corps members had been registered for the orientation exercise.

"They have been disciplined, cooperative and supportive, voluntarily serving on various committees and contributing positively to the smooth running of the Orientation Camp," she added.

Ojisua thanked the Director-General for his visit, describing it as a source of encouragement to both the corps members and camp officials.
