Fubara Calls for Peace and Unity in Rivers at Nigeria's 66th Anniversary

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has appealed to the people of the state to uphold peace and unity, which he described as essential foundations for any society's socio-economic progress.

In a goodwill message commemorating Nigeria's 66th Independence Anniversary, Fubara said the occasion provided a chance for Nigerians to look back on the nation's path since 1960 and to reaffirm their dedication to harmonious living.

The governor's remarks were made in a statement released on Thursday by his media aide, Onwuka Nzeshi, and distributed to journalists.

Fubara observed that Rivers State, often called the "treasure base of the nation" and home to a mix of various ethnic groups, has consistently flourished whenever its residents coexisted peacefully.

He emphasised that significant development cannot occur amid discord, division, and political animosity.

While acknowledging that political disagreements are a natural part of democracy, the governor insisted they should never be permitted to harm the state's shared interests.

"We may disagree as politicians, but we must never disagree on the peace and progress of Rivers State," he said.

Fubara highlighted that since taking office, his administration has built its governance approach around peace, which he views as the most precious form of infrastructure.

He attributed the state's comparative stability to enabling his government to draw in investments and carry out projects in all three senatorial districts.

He called on young people, traditional leaders, political figures, and other stakeholders to serve as champions of peace within their communities, wards, and local government areas, noting that turmoil brings no advantages to anyone.

The governor also encouraged Rivers residents to keep backing the Federal Government led by President Bola Tinubu, stressing that national cohesion and cooperation between different levels of government are vital for realising the objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
