Iyabo Obasanjo Taps Ex-BBC Journalist Gbolahan Macjob as Media Aide

Former Senator Iyabo Obasanjo has appointed Gbolahan Macjob, a onetime senior journalist at the British Broadcasting Corporation, to serve as her spokesperson and media aide.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued by Obasanjo's media office and made available on Monday.

According to the statement, Macjob is expected to apply his background in journalism and media toward articulating Obasanjo's positions, activities and public engagements.

The statement noted that his professional record and published output reflect experience in broadcast journalism, including work contributed to BBC reporting.

It added that the appointment comes at a time of renewed political activity involving Obasanjo, who is a daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Obasanjo held the Ogun Central Senatorial District seat from 2007 to 2011, and had earlier served as Ogun State Commissioner for Health.

She subsequently built an academic career in the United States, before making a return to active politics in 2026, the statement said.

With Macjob's appointment, media communication now sits at the core of the former senator's public engagement, per the statement, which noted that his news gathering and broadcasting experience could prove useful in handling communications across both traditional and digital platforms.

The statement further observed that the move reflects a broader trend of professionals with international media backgrounds moving into Nigeria's political communication sphere, where public figures are increasingly turning to strategic messaging and prompt media engagement.

Macjob's filmmaking background was also highlighted, with the statement saying he would be eager to grow the creative sector across Ogun Central.

"In addition to his journalistic experience, Macjob, also a filmmaker, brings his expertise in the creative sector – Nigeria's second-largest employer after agriculture and one he'd be keen to scale up across Ogun Central," the statement read.
