White House Opens Fall Garden Tours, Showcasing New Helipad and Beehive
The White House has announced that its autumn garden tours will take place on October 17 and 18, giving visitors a chance to see a newly built helipad and an enlarged beehive among other features.
Running from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on both days, the tours are free and held twice a year, in spring and fall. Tickets are required and will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis by the National Park Service starting at 8:30 a.m. outside the White House Visitor Center.
According to an announcement on Tuesday from first lady Melania Trump's office, those taking the tour will be able to appreciate the South Lawn, the Rose Garden, the White House Kitchen Garden, the expanded White House Beehive and the new helipad.
The White House said the grounds offer visitors a rare view of the setting that has formed the backdrop to 250 years of American history.
Earlier this month, President Trump said construction had finished on the granite landing pad on the South Lawn that he had directed to be built for Marine One. The president stated that Sikorsky Aircraft, a Lockheed Martin subsidiary, paid for the $6 million project.
In April, Melania Trump took part in revealing a beehive placed on the South Lawn that was designed to resemble a miniature version of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
Although the tours coincide with cooler weather and are free of charge, all attendees must have tickets.
