Osun senator installs 1,500 solar lights, empowers 600 artisans
The Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate, Lere Oyewumi, has installed 1,500 solar-powered street lights and provided N50,000 cash grants to 600 artisans across the 10 local government areas of Osun West Senatorial District.
The empowerment programme, according to a statement issued by his media unit on Wednesday, aims to support small businesses and ease the economic challenges facing district residents.
The beneficiaries include tailors, mechanics, carpenters, hairdressers and technicians.
The statement read, “The intervention was part of his efforts to ensure that his representation translated into tangible benefits for constituents.
“Senator Oyewumi emphasised that purposeful representation must reflect directly in the welfare and financial independence of citizens, as artisans represent the backbone of local productivity.
“That direct financial support would help artisans meet operational needs and sustain their businesses. It remains one of the most effective tools to offset operational costs, acquire critical needs, and build sustainable livelihoods at the grassroots level.”
The senator also pledged to continue with legislative advocacy and human capital development initiatives in the district.
Oyewumi reaffirmed his dedication to continuous legislative advocacy and human capital development, assuring constituents that the intervention was part of an expansive, long-term blueprint designed to lift families out of economic vulnerability and foster lasting self-reliance across the senatorial district.
The statement said beneficiaries and trade union leaders commended the initiative, describing it as timely and beneficial to artisans.
The intervention comes amid growing concerns over the rising cost of doing business and the impact of the economic situation on small-scale businesses and informal sector operators across the country.
