Katsina Governor Signs N828.58bn 2027 Budget, Orders Prompt Delivery

Katsina State's 2027 spending plan has become law after Governor Dikko Umar Radda appended his signature to the N828.58 billion appropriation bill, and he has told the state's ministries, departments and agencies to carry out its projects and programmes promptly and effectively.

The signing took place on Wednesday evening, after which the governor said the agencies must make sure the budget produces visible development for residents of the state.

According to Radda, the duty now rests with the relevant MDAs, since the legislation is in place and the government's plans and allocations have to be converted into actual projects and programmes.

He said the 2027 budget was put together in three stages, a design intended to make sure government spending mirrors what citizens need and consider important.

During the first stage, he explained, residents in all 361 electoral wards of the state were consulted, and the needs they raised were gathered and built into the 2027 budget.

Stage two, he added, saw ministries, departments and agencies subject their budget proposals to detailed examination and defence in his presence — an arrangement he said has continued since his administration took office in 2023.

The House of Assembly then handled the third stage, considering the proposals under the constitutional power it holds to scrutinise the budget and pass it into law.

Radda said: “Now it is up to all of us to implement it. So we hope and pray that the implementing ministries, departments and agencies will be timely in their execution. And we also focus on the areas they need to focus their attention.”

He noted that the early passage and signing of the 2027 budget marked another step in the state government's drive to make its budget cycle more punctual.

He remembered that the 2026 appropriation bill was signed into law on November 17, and said putting his signature to the 2027 budget on October 30 was a notable improvement.

When he presented the 2027 Appropriation Bill for assent, the Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Hon. Nasiru Yahaya Daura, put the total approved for the 2027 fiscal year at N828,578,844,091.48.

Daura also said N190,726,262,820.44 of that amount is for recurrent expenditure, while N637,852,581,271.03 is for capital expenditure.

He restated the Assembly's readiness to keep backing the APC-led administration as it delivers democratic dividends to the state's people.

The Speaker further asked residents to sustain their support for the government so that its development agenda can be carried out successfully.
