Kano Governor Yusuf Calls for Peace Ahead of 2027 Elections

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has called on residents to refrain from any behaviour that could undermine the peace and stability currently enjoyed in the state, as the country moves closer to the 2027 general elections.
The governor made the appeal on Thursday while delivering an address at the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium during the celebration of Nigeria's 66th National Independence Anniversary.
According to him, the people of Kano should keep prioritising peace, unity, and mutual respect, which he described as vital for the economic growth and development of the state.
Yusuf said, "As the 2027 General Election is fast approaching, I also appeal to you all to continue to uphold peace, unity, and mutual respect. Let us shun violence and anything that may threaten the peace and stability of our dear state."
He also encouraged both Kano citizens and Nigerians in general to keep praying for an election that is peaceful, free, fair, and credible.
The governor expressed gratitude to all security agencies for their relentless work in preserving peace and safeguarding the lives and property of the people at all times.
He said, "I must also seize this opportunity to appreciate all our security agencies for their tireless efforts in maintaining peace and protecting the lives and property of our people at all times. I urge our people to reject violence, division, intolerance and criminality, and to embrace peace, lawful enterprise and responsible citizenship."
Yusuf stated that his administration is determined to build on the progress already achieved in sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, water supply, security, and human capital development.
He said, "Our administration remain committed to consolidating the gains we have made in education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, water supply, security and human capital development. We shall continue to work with the Federal Government, Local Governments, traditional and religious institutions, the private sector and development partners in the service of our people."
He added, "As we mark this 66th Independence Anniversary, let us renew our faith in Nigeria, uphold peace and unity, and contribute our share towards building a stronger, more prosperous and peaceful nation."
The governor restated his administration's resolve to deepen cooperation with all security agencies in the state and to provide more logistics and operational assistance to security formations, especially the Military, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and DSS in vulnerable and frontline communities.
He said, "We have also sustained grassroots security coordination and increased attention to local government areas including Tsanyawa, Ghari, Gwarzo, Shanono, Bagwai, Rogo, Kiru/Bebeji, Karaye, Tudun Wada/Doguwa and other communities facing security challenges, with the objective of protecting lives, restoring confidence and enabling residents to return to their farms and normal economic activities."
Yusuf also noted that his government has taken bold measures to address the escalating issues of drug abuse and illicit trafficking. He pointed to the creation of the Kano State Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking and the signing of an Executive Order to bolster the crackdown on illicit substances, thuggery, and associated criminal acts, saying these steps are delivering positive outcomes.
Additionally, he mentioned that the state government has offered start-up capital, livestock, skills training, and other assistance to thousands of beneficiaries throughout the state as part of initiatives to help vulnerable families.
Yusuf thanked the Federal Government for its backing of critical infrastructure, security, and other development projects in Kano State.
