Beyond Commerce: Firm Takes Preventive Healthcare Campaign To Lagos Community

Jumia Nigeria is extending its community engagement beyond commerce to preventive healthcare.

In partnership with St. Emmanuel Hospital, the company hosted an open health-check initiative in Isolo, Lagos, on September 30, 2026, to mark World Heart Day, providing members of the public with access to basic health checks and conversations about cardiovascular health.

Through the activity, participants underwent basic health assessments and engaged healthcare professionals on the importance of paying closer attention to heart health.

The programme comes at a time when cardiovascular health remains an important public health concern in Nigeria.

For Jumia, the partnership was designed to move the conversation beyond awareness by encouraging people to take practical steps towards understanding and monitoring their health.

Speaking on the initiative, the head of Human Resources, Jumia Nigeria, Risper Obure, said the company believes that meaningful community engagement should extend beyond commerce to initiatives that touch people’s everyday lives.

“At Jumia, our responsibility to the communities we serve goes beyond providing access to products and services. World Heart Day offers an important opportunity to encourage people to pay attention to their health, ask questions, and take simple, proactive steps towards their wellbeing.

“Our partnership with St. Emmanuel Hospital allowed us to bring that conversation closer to the public and reinforce the importance of making health a priority,” she said.

The collaboration also underscores the value of accessible health conversations, particularly around conditions that may not always present obvious symptoms.

The initiative forms part of Jumia Nigeria’s approach to community engagement, leveraging moments of public relevance to create experiences that connect with consumers beyond the marketplace, while reinforcing that better health outcomes can begin with paying attention, asking questions, and seeking appropriate medical guidance.
