2027 Poll: INEC Rules Out Inconclusive Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has ruled out the possibility of inconclusive elections in the 2027 general elections, saying it has continued to strengthen its electoral management processes.
Chairman of the commission, Prof. Joash Amupitan, stated this on Tuesday at the World Press Conference and National Stakeholders Meeting in Abuja.
Amupitan said INEC had learnt important lessons from recent off-cycle governorship elections in Anambra, Ekiti and Osun states, which, according to him, would help the commission improve its conduct of the 2027 elections.
He said the commission was determined to ensure that the 2027 elections were conducted in a manner that would reflect the will of the electorate.
“We have continued to improve our electoral management and we are determined to ensure that the 2027 elections meet the expectations of Nigerians,” Amupitan said.
The INEC chairman said the commission had taken into account the experiences from the elections it had conducted as it prepares for the 2027 general elections.
“The lessons from the elections we have conducted will guide us as we prepare for the 2027 general elections. Our objective is to ensure that the process is credible, transparent and acceptable to Nigerians,” he said.
Amupitan assured Nigerians that the commission would take all necessary measures to ensure that the elections were conducted in accordance with the law.
“Nigerians should be assured that INEC will do everything within its mandate to deliver free, fair, transparent and credible elections in 2027,” he said.
He also ruled out the prospect of inconclusive polls, saying the commission’s improved electoral management would help ensure that the outcome of the elections reflects the choice of the electorate.
Amupitan urged political parties, candidates, voters and other stakeholders to support the commission in ensuring peaceful, credible and transparent elections in 2027.
