Police investigate shooting at NDC secretariat in Enugu, one injured, five vehicles damaged

The Enugu State Police Command has begun looking into a shooting that occurred outside the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) secretariat in Enugu, which reportedly wounded one man and damaged five parked vehicles.
Unidentified armed individuals are said to have fired shots in front of the party's secretariat on Saturday.
The injured man was reportedly fixing a vehicle parked on the road when the shooting happened. He was hit by a bullet and taken to a hospital by police officers. He is receiving treatment and is said to be in stable condition.
Meanwhile, the state commissioner of police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to carry out a thorough probe and track down and arrest those behind the attack.
The police said their operatives responded quickly to a distress call, arrived at the scene and restored order.
In a separate incident on the same day, a combined team of police and military personnel dispersed suspected NDC members who had gathered in a disorderly manner at the entrance of Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.
The incident happened at about 11:30 a.m. after a disagreement over access to the airport, where the party members had reportedly gathered to welcome their governorship candidate.
According to the police, preliminary investigations showed that airport authorities had barred the party members from entering the facility in large numbers.
The restriction reportedly caused a misunderstanding among the party members, which turned into a fight and led to the intervention of the joint security operatives.
Responding to the developments, Giwa called on political parties and their supporters to avoid violence and to carry out their activities in line with the law and existing peace accords.
He also restated the command's commitment to ensuring a level playing field for all political parties in the state.
The commissioner urged political parties to inform the police of their planned activities so that the command can make adequate security arrangements and prevent incidents that could disrupt public order.
The police said the investigation into the alleged shooting is ongoing.
