Dangote Cement Obajana awards scholarships

Dangote Cement Plc, Obajana Plant, has reinforced its commitment to the development of its host communities with the award of educational scholarships and empowerment support to students, farmers and market women in Jakura community.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Plant Director, Obajana Plant, Engr. Azad Nawabuddin, said the initiative was part of the company’s commitment to fulfilling the provisions of the Community Development Agreement (CDA).
Represented by the Head of Social Performance, Prince Ademola Adeyemi, the Plant Director said the intervention reflected Dangote Cement’s commitment to sustainable community development, poverty reduction and economic empowerment.
According to him, 20 tertiary institution students and 60 secondary school students received educational grants worth several millions of naira. He added that 20 farmers were provided with farming implements and financial support to improve agricultural productivity, encourage the adoption of modern farming practices and enhance food security.
Similarly, 20 market women received start-up capital and business support to strengthen their enterprises, promote financial independence and improve household incomes.
The ceremony was attended by traditional rulers, government representatives, community leaders, youth and women groups, and members of the Jakura and Oworo traditional councils. Among those present were the Obaro of Jakura, His Royal Highness Oba Usman Adoga Ajibola; the representative of the Olu of Oworo, Chief K.A. Mahmood, the Obalumema of Oworo Land; Engr. E.O. Olaitan of the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development; and Mrs. A.O. Onimode of the Kogi State Ministry of Solid Minerals and Natural Resources.
Earlier, Chairman of the Jakura CDA Committee, Chief Bonibade Ajiboye, commended Dangote Cement for fulfilling its commitments to the community, noting that the company’s electrification project in the area was nearing completion despite prevailing security challenges.
In his remarks, Oba Usman Adoga Ajibola expressed appreciation to Dangote Cement and Alhaji Aliko Dangote for investing in the area and supporting community development. He pledged the community’s commitment to ensuring that the projects are sustained and that beneficiaries utilise the support responsibly.
He also prayed for continued blessings for Alhaji Aliko Dangote for his philanthropy and contributions to humanity.
