AEDC targets 100% metering of customers

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has said it is targeting 100 per cent metering of its network to close the metering gap among its more than 1.2 million customers.

The Managing Director of AEDC disclosed this yesterday in Abuja while launching the company’s MyPower mobile application, which allows customers to manage their electricity accounts, make payments, lodge complaints and verify staff visiting their homes.

He said the company had adopted technology to improve customer service and eliminate estimated billing across its network.

“We want everybody to be metered. We have various channels and various opportunities and options for customers to get metered. But the commitment is that we will drive closure of all metering gaps. We will ensure that we have 100 per cent metering coverage in our network,” he said.

The MD said the MyPower application was developed to help the company understand customers’ needs and respond to their complaints.

He said the platform would improve communication between AEDC and its customers, adding that the company would listen more and respond to customers’ requirements.

The application allows customers to create accounts, verify their identity, link their electricity accounts, confirm meter details, make payments and receive electricity tokens.

It also allows customers to report service problems and track complaints using ticket numbers.

The MD said the application also has a staff verification feature to enable customers to confirm the identity of personnel visiting their homes.

“We recognise the security issues we have, and because of that we have solved that with the staff verification that we have. This is who the person is. You can easily verify the person coming to your house,” he said.

The Chief Information Officer of AEDC, Dr Uche Anyalewechi, said the application was part of the company’s wider digitisation efforts.

He said the platform would eventually allow customers to monitor their feeders and identify whether power outages were caused by faults on their feeders or other parts of the network.

Anyalewechi said AEDC was also integrating its customer relationship management system across its service channels, including the mobile application, website, WhatsApp and Telegram.

He said the aim was to provide customers with multiple channels to access the company and ensure that complaints were properly tracked.

The MD said the application was primarily aimed at improving customer satisfaction rather than cutting costs.

He, however, said improved customer service could increase revenue collection as customers gained better understanding of their bills and received faster responses to complaints.
