Nigeria Sends 10 Boxers To Inaugural African Elite Championships In Nairobi

Nigeria will compete at the inaugural African Boxing Elite Championships in Nairobi, Kenya, from 15 to 28 October, with 10 boxers expected to represent the country across five men’s and five women’s weight categories.

The National Sports Commission (NSC) announced in a statement on Monday that the Nigerian contingent would comprise 19 delegates, including the athletes, as the country prepares to compete against the continent’s leading boxers.

The team is scheduled to depart Nigeria on Tuesday, 13 October, and arrive in Nairobi on Wednesday, 14 October, ahead of the championship.

According to the statement signed by Kola Daniel, Special Assistant on Media to the Director-General of the NSC, the competition will provide Nigeria’s elite boxers with an opportunity to test their abilities against top opponents from across Africa.

The championship is also expected to offer the Nigerian athletes valuable international experience and a platform to demonstrate the depth of the country’s boxing talent.

The NSC expressed confidence in the team’s preparations and urged the boxers to represent Nigeria with discipline and determination.

The commission also wished the contingent success at the competition, urging its members to uphold the country’s reputation for competitiveness and sporting excellence.

Nigeria’s participation in the inaugural championship forms part of efforts to strengthen the country’s presence in African boxing and provide its athletes with opportunities to compete at the highest level.

The competition, which runs until 28 October, is expected to bring together elite boxers from across the continent to compete for honours in the various weight categories.
