Man hospitalized after being hit by ICE vehicle ICE in west Houston, officials say

HOUSTON (CW39) — A man was injured and taken to the hospital after being struck by a vehicle driven by Immigration and Customs Enforcement authorities in west Houston, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said.

The incident happened around Saturday morning near Highway 6, the HCSO said.

Deputies said that ICE were in pursuit of a vehicle containing a wanted suspect. The pursuit was going southbound on Highway 6 when the suspected vehicle stopped and two men fled from the vehicle.

While trying to apprehend the passenger from the vehicle, ICE agents tried to box in the suspect near a building when one of the vehicles hit the suspect.

The 48-year-old man was taken to a local hospital, where his condition is unknown, but deputies believe the man suffered a broken leg. Deputies said that he is currently in ICE custody.

The HCSO said that their vehicular crimes unit is investigating the incident and will use surveillance video around the scene to determine what happened.

Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner Lesley Briones issued a statement about the incident:

“I am horrified to learn that an ICE vehicle struck a man on Clay Road this morning in Precinct 4. While we wait to learn more, my prayers are with his family. Under the Trump administration, ICE has brought chaos and destruction to communities across our country. ICE must cooperate fully with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office and release all video evidence of this incident. We demand full transparency, accountability, and respect for the rule of law.”
