2027: ADC activates presidential campaign machinery

The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, David Mark, will today (Friday) inaugurate the party’s Presidential Campaign Council, formally setting its campaign machinery in motion ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The inauguration is scheduled for 4 pm at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja and is expected to bring together major leaders of the party and candidates seeking elective positions on the ADC platform.
In a statement on Thursday, the Special Adviser to the National Chairman on Media and Publicity, Kola Ologbondiyan, said the ceremony would mark a significant step in the party’s preparations for the 2027 elections.
He said all ADC leaders, governorship candidates, National Assembly candidates and state House of Assembly candidates are expected to attend the event.
According to Ologbondiyan, the inauguration would provide the platform for the party to formally activate its presidential campaign structure as it begins preparations for the nationwide campaign.
“The inauguration formally sets the stage for the ADC presidential campaign machinery ahead of the 2027 general elections,” he said.
The event comes as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 elections, with the ADC positioning itself as one of the major opposition platforms seeking to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress.
The party has in recent months stepped up efforts to build its structures across the country and coordinate its campaign activities ahead of the polls.
The ADC presidential ticket is held by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, whose emergence has placed the party at the centre of ongoing efforts by opposition politicians to consolidate forces ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The inauguration of the PCC is therefore expected to bring the party’s presidential campaign structure into a more coordinated operational phase, with party leaders and candidates expected to work towards a common campaign message.
The Friday ceremony is also expected to provide an opportunity for the party leadership to outline its priorities and direction as the election season gathers momentum.
Ologbondiyan urged party leaders and candidates to participate fully in the inauguration.
He said the gathering would underscore the importance of unity and coordination among the various levels of the party’s campaign structure as the ADC prepares to take its message to voters across the country.
The party had earlier named Abia lawmaker, Austin Akobundu, as the Director General of what Atiku described as a lean presidential campaign council.
