Pantami Wins PDP Gombe Governorship Primary Again After Court-Ordered Rerun
Prof. Isa Ali Pantami has emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for Gombe State ahead of the 2027 general elections, winning a rerun primary conducted on Tuesday.
The fresh exercise was ordered by a Federal High Court last Thursday, which nullified Pantami's initial victory and directed the party to hold a new primary. The rerun took place across all 114 wards in the state's 11 Local Government Areas.
Declaring the results, the Chairman of the PDP Governorship Primary Election Committee, Hon. Johnbull Tiemlong Shekarau, said 2,555 accredited members took part in the vote. Pantami secured 2,054 votes to defeat his two challengers.
Khamisu Ahmed Mailantarki, a former member of the House of Representatives, came second with 389 votes, while Hon. Usman Aliyu Garry finished third with 112 votes.
"I, Hon. Johnbull Tiemlong Shekarau, hereby declare Isa Ali Pantami as the winner of this primary election and return him as the duly elected governorship candidate of the Peoples Demoratic Party (PDP) for the 2027 general elections," Shekarau announced.
Shekarau expressed gratitude to the PDP's national and state leadership for their backing, which he credited for the smooth conduct of the primary. He also thanked committee members for their teamwork and dedication, and acknowledged security agencies for maintaining order during the process.
Additionally, he appreciated Senator Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo for his guidance and support throughout the exercise, and extended thanks to party members and Gombe residents for their peaceful behaviour.
In his acceptance remarks, Pantami praised party members for conducting themselves peacefully during the primary. He urged Mailantarki and Garry to unite with him and support all PDP candidates in the general elections.
Pantami pledged to offer purposeful leadership if elected, stating that he would "rescue the state from years of mis-governance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration."
