Offa Turns Out for APC Deputy Governorship Candidate Ogunniyi
A mammoth crowd filled the streets of Offa, a town in Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State, on Tuesday to receive Hon. Seun Ogunniyi (Adato), the All Progressives Congress (APC) deputy governorship candidate in the state. Ogunniyi returned to his native Offa in the company of the party's other candidates from Kwara South.
Residents were overjoyed by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq's choice of Ogunniyi as the running mate to the APC governorship candidate, Engr. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, who is also the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Records show that Offa last produced a deputy governor between 1979 and 1983, when the late Chief Shittu Ajiroba served as deputy to the late Governor Adamu Attah on the platform of the defunct National Party of Nigeria (NPN).
The Olofa of Offa, Oba Muftau Esuwoye, could not conceal his happiness that one of his subjects had been picked as the ruling party's deputy governorship candidate. Welcoming Ogunniyi and his entourage to his palace in Offa, the monarch said: "We asked for it, and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq gave it to us. If he had not given us, there is nothing we could have done. As Hassan Oyeleke rightly said, we have had the Senate, House of Representatives, and Deputy Governorship positions."
He observed that some communities spread across the seven local government areas of Kwara South are yet to have the chance to fill such positions.
"Now that they have given us the Deputy Governor, you are calling it an 'extra tyre.' You are the one who knows what an extra tyre is. But let me tell you this: it is only someone who does not understand his responsibility that would be regarded as an extra tyre," the Olofa said.
"As for Adato, they have given him to us. He has served in the House of Assembly for four years, and throughout that period, he has never left my people. So, Adato and the APC governorship candidate, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Salihu-Danladi, will both emerge at the poll. They have both served in the same State Assembly, and they know each other very well. I appreciate Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for picking Adato (Hon. Ogunniyi David Oluwaseun)."
Speaking to APC supporters, Ogunniyi pledged that a Danladi-Salihu government would continue from where Governor AbdulRazaq stopped. He lauded the governor for delivering what he called legacy projects in each of the state's three senatorial districts, for raising educational standards, and for safeguarding the welfare of civil servants through the prompt and regular payment of salaries, among other achievements.
Ogunniyi appealed to the people of Offa and the wider Ibolo community to show appreciation for the governor's gesture by turning out in large numbers for all APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.
