Kaduna Assembly Confirms Three Commissioner Nominees

The Kaduna State House of Assembly has confirmed three individuals nominated for commissioner positions by Governor Uba Sani. The confirmation followed a screening process conducted during a plenary session presided over by the Speaker, Hon. Yusuf Dahiru Liman.
The nominees are Ben Kure, who has been designated as Commissioner for Sports Development; Amina Akilu-Dalhat, Commissioner for Special Duties I; and Abdullahi Garba Abbas, Commissioner for Special Duties II.
Speaking after the screening, Kure, a former managing director of the Kaduna State Media Corporation, said his focus would be on leveraging sports to drive youth development, health, and unity across the state. He noted that sports has the ability to bring people together regardless of religious or social differences, citing its emphasis on inclusion and sportsmanship.
Kure also stated that he would work with ministry officials to grasp its operations and ensure his activities align with the governor's vision for sports development. He pointed to the ongoing rehabilitation of sporting facilities, including the Ahmadu Bello Stadium and Ranchers Bees Stadium, as a step that would create more opportunities for young people to engage in sports.
With youths making up a large portion of Kaduna's population, Kure said investing in sports would promote physical fitness and open doors for talented young individuals.
In her remarks, Akilu-Dalhat said her appointment as Commissioner for Special Duties would allow her to contribute to Kaduna State's development by collaborating with other ministries to execute special projects. She explained that the ministry would take direction from the governor and concentrate on initiatives that directly impact residents' lives. According to her, special attention would be given to women and youths in carrying out the government's agenda.
Meanwhile, the House introduced a bill aimed at regulating private health facilities and health-related institutions in the state through the creation of a regulatory agency for the sector.
Hon. Mahmud Lawal Ismaila, chairman of the House Committee on Education and member representing Zaria City Constituency, said the bill seeks to regulate the establishment, licensing, accreditation, and operations of private health facilities. He stated that the proposed agency would tackle the proliferation of unlicensed and unqualified private health facilities in the state.
Ismaila added that the agency would be tasked with issuing licences, approving the establishment of private health facilities, and ensuring that operators meet prescribed standards before they begin operations.
