Ondo Aircraft Crash: Police Await Heavy Equipment To Recover Wreckage

The Ondo State Police Command has said it is awaiting heavy equipment from relevant agencies to facilitate the recovery of the wreckage of the Nigerian Air Force aircraft that crashed in Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government Area of the state.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, disclosed this after assessing the crash site on Tuesday, saying the difficult terrain had made the recovery operation challenging.
According to him, the crash site is surrounded by creeks and mangroves, forcing him to use a canoe to access the area.
Ohagwu said both human remains and parts of the aircraft had been recovered, while personnel were still working at the scene.
He said, “For now, the recovery of the wreckage is still in progress. I will not say much until after the conclusion of the investigation by the relevant agencies.”
The commissioner said the authorities were awaiting bigger equipment capable of pulling the wreckage from the water.

“We are still expecting a bigger machine to be able to pull the wreckage from the water. We have to pull it,” he said.
He added that the police were expecting a response from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other relevant agencies to provide the required equipment.
Ohagwu also said no survivor had so far been found at the crash site, adding that body parts and passengers’ clothes were seen scattered around the area.
The aircraft, which was on a routine mission from Benin to Lagos, crashed in a swampy area opposite the Naval Base in Igbokoda on Monday.
