ADC Condemns Attack On Party’s Reps Candidate In Anambra, Demands Probe

The leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Anambra State has condemned an alleged attack on the party’s candidate for Idemili-North/ Idemili–South federal constituency in the coming 2027 general election, Hon. Nnamdi Ifebi and supporters of the party in the constituency.
The party’s Publicity Secretary and Head of Media and Strategic Communications, Comrade Linus Anagboso in a statement yesterday said that thugs armed with dangerous weapons stormed the venue where Ifebi was holding meeting with members and other supporters of the party in Obosi on Tuesday evening and unleashed attack on them.
He alleged that the thugs vandalised a campaign vehicle belonging to Hon. Nnamdi Ifebi and dispossessed all the party members and supporters their valuable personal belongings and empowerment items distributed to them at the event.
The ADC’s state spokesperson described the incident as unacceptable and contrary to democratic principles.
He urged that political competition must be defined by ideas, character and service to the people, not intimidation, violence or destruction of property.
The party called on security agencies to conduct an impartial investigation into the reported incident, identify those responsible and ensure that anyone found culpable faces the full weight of the law.
“Political competition must be defined by ideas, character, and service to the people—not intimidation, violence, or destruction of property,” the statement read.
The ADC also urged political stakeholders and supporters across the state to exercise restraint, reject retaliation and respect the rights of every citizen to participate freely in the democratic process.
“Political differences must never become grounds for violence. Our democracy must be protected, and the law must prevail,” Anagboso stated.
When contacted, the public relations officer of the Anambra State Police Command, superintendent of police, SP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the attack, but, said that the traditional ruler of Obosi, Igwe Chidubem Iweka has waded into the case.
“The incident was reported to the police command but the traditional ruler of Obosi, Igwe Chidubem Iweka has waded into the matter because the matter involves two brothers, but, who are in different political camps.
“As I am speaking to you now, the two camps are in the palace of the traditional ruler in Obosi holding meeting with the traditional ruler. So, the command has decided to wait for the outcome of the intervention of the Igwe”, the state police command spokesperson told LEADERSHIP.
