JAMB Cautions Candidates Against Accepting Admissions Outside CAPS

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a warning to candidates, advising them not to accept admission offers that were not processed through its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS). The board stated that such offers might not be considered valid.

The warning was shared on Monday via JAMB's official social media accounts. In the post, the board encouraged prospective students to confirm their admission status on CAPS before accepting any offer.

According to JAMB, "An admission offered by an institution outside the approved JAMB admission process may not be recognised as valid." The board also cautioned that "Accepting such an offer could put your academic journey at risk and create complications with your admission records and related processes."

The caution came as JAMB promoted an episode of its JAMB Explained series, which discusses what constitutes an illegal admission, its consequences, and how candidates can safeguard themselves. The board reiterated the importance of verifying admission status through CAPS before proceeding with any offer.

"Your admission journey deserves the right foundation. Verify before you accept," JAMB added.

Information on JAMB's official website indicates that CAPS was created to streamline the admission process into tertiary institutions. The system enables candidates to check their admission status and confirm provisional offers, while allowing institutions to conduct admissions within the approved framework.

JAMB's 2026 admission guidelines specify that all admissions must be processed through the board and printed on its e-Facility platform. The guidelines state, "Any offer of admission from any tertiary institution without JAMB Admission Letter is illegal and is not recognized by the Board."

Furthermore, the guidelines warn that candidates who accept admissions outside CAPS do so at their own risk, and the board will neither recognise nor condone such admissions.

Candidates can check their admission status and access CAPS through JAMB's official website, jamb.gov.ng.
