Lagos mobilises youths for military recruitment

The Lagos State Government has called on youths between the ages of 18 and 26 to apply for the ongoing military recruitment exercise, urging eligible residents to help the state meet its recruitment quota.
The Secretary to the Lagos State Government, Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, made this call during a meeting with the 57 local government secretaries and representatives of the Police Community Relations Committee on Tuesday.
She said, “We want a lot of our children between the ages of 18 and 26 to apply so that Lagos State can meet its quota again for this season.”
The meeting also focused on security, governance and preparations for the forthcoming elections, with the SSG stressing the need for all stakeholders to work together to maintain peace across the state.
According to her, the involvement of the local government secretaries was particularly important because of their role in coordinating activities at the grassroots.
She said the secretaries were expected to understand developments in their respective local governments, communicate them to their chairmen and escalate issues requiring state-level intervention.
“This is how to have good governance, because we must ask for the best. Our people must know what we are doing, and we must look at policies,” he said.
The SSG added that the state government was committed to reviewing policies that were not working effectively and making necessary adjustments to improve the welfare of residents.
Salu-Hundeyin said the meeting also provided an opportunity for the government and its partners to discuss measures aimed at ensuring a peaceful environment ahead of the elections.
She added that the Police Community Relations Committee was invited because of its role in supporting security efforts in the state.
“The state government has given a marching order that, as usual, more than ever before, Lagos must remain peaceful,” he said.
The SSG said the discussions were ultimately aimed at improving governance and ensuring better living conditions for residents, noting that the essence of governance was “to deliver better livability to our people.”
