Airtel Money Prices IPO at £1.96 Per Share, Eyes £5.3bn Valuation

Airtel Mobile Commerce N.V., the mobile money unit of Airtel Africa trading as Airtel Money, has pegged its planned initial public offering at £1.96 per share. At that price, the business expects a market valuation of about £5.3 billion, equivalent to $7.0 billion, once its shares are admitted to trading.

The pricing was made public in a statement released on Thursday. Airtel Money's ordinary shares are intended for listing on the London Stock Exchange, and admission is presently anticipated for 14 October. The move follows a 23 September announcement by Airtel Africa that it planned to pursue a flotation of the mobile money operation, which delivers services in a number of African markets.

As part of the offer, a group of current Airtel Money shareholders is set to offload 270 million existing shares. Should the over-allotment option be exercised in full, another 27 million shares could be sold. Airtel Africa stated that it has no plans to dispose of its own Airtel Money shares through the offer, other than in connection with that over-allotment option.

The telecommunications group described itself as staying on as a "long-term strategic shareholder" in Airtel Money, and said it would support the unit as it embarks on the next stage of its development as a separately listed business.

According to the current intentions signalled by existing shareholders, roughly 16.5 per cent of Airtel Money's issued ordinary share capital would sit in public hands if the over-allotment option is left unexercised. Airtel Africa said that proportion could reach about 17.5 per cent should the maximum number of extra shares be sold.

Airtel Money anticipates that this level of public shareholding will make it eligible for inclusion in the FTSE UK indices. The company added that it plans to seek admission of its ordinary shares to the equity shares category of the Official List maintained by the UK Financial Conduct Authority, as well as permission to trade on the London Stock Exchange's Main Market.

Additional particulars of the offer are to be provided in a prospectus, which the company said would be posted on Airtel Money's IPO website on Thursday, subject to the relevant access restrictions.

Airtel Africa has been working towards separating its mobile money arm from its main telecoms business, a step taken after the financial subsidiary's recent performance. In 2025, Airtel Money generated $1.4 billion in turnover, an increase of more than one-third over the amount it reported the year before.

Airtel Africa presents itself as a major supplier of telecommunications and mobile money services, operating in 14 countries across sub-Saharan Africa. Subscribers are offered an integrated package covering mobile voice and data alongside mobile money services, both inside individual countries and across borders.
