UCL: Osimhen ‘Perfect’ To Exploit Barcelona’s High Defensive Line, Galatasaray Coach Warns

Galatasaray assistant coach Ismael García has warned Barcelona that Victor Osimhen could exploit their high defensive line when the two sides meet in the UEFA Champions League, insisting the Nigerian striker is fit and ready for the contest.

Osimhen returned from injury at the weekend and is expected to lead Galatasaray’s attack against the Spanish giants, with García confident that the Super Eagles forward’s pace, power and movement could cause problems for Hansi Flick’s defence.

Speaking to Spanish newspaper Diario Sport, García described Osimhen as a decisive player whose characteristics make him particularly suited to exploiting Barcelona’s aggressive defensive approach.

“Yes, yes. I’m not going to tell you clichés or lies: he’s ready to play and he’s a completely differential player for us. Obviously, he’s there to play,” García said.

He added that Barcelona’s tendency to defend with a high line could create opportunities for the former Napoli striker to get behind their defenders.

“The top players do well in every game, but perhaps, because of Barcelona’s way of defending, so aggressive and with the defensive line in the middle of the field, Osimhen is the striker who, due to his characteristics, is perfect against that type of defence,” he said.

“Beyond the fact that he is an extraordinary striker, we hope that he can do a lot of damage to Barcelona with the way he plays.”

Osimhen’s return is a major boost for Galatasaray as they prepare to face one of Europe’s most formidable attacking sides. His ability to run into space, press defenders and compete physically could prove crucial against a Barcelona team that often pushes its defensive line high up the pitch.

The Nigerian forward has established himself as a key figure for the Turkish champions, and his availability offers Galatasaray an important attacking weapon for a fixture that could test their ambitions in Europe.

However, García acknowledged that facing Barcelona would be a difficult challenge, despite his confidence in Osimhen’s ability to trouble the visitors.

“Playing against Barça is like going to the dentist: you know it’s going to hurt, but you have to go and take it as well as possible,” he said.

The Galatasaray assistant coach nevertheless expressed confidence that his side could make the contest uncomfortable for the Spanish club.

“Hopefully things go well. We know that they are possibly the most in-form team in Europe, but we are confident that we can put them in trouble,” he added.

Both teams head into the encounter following convincing domestic victories.

Barcelona strengthened their preparations with a 3-0 win over Getafe in La Liga, while Galatasaray defeated Kasımpaşa 3-1 to maintain their position at the top of the Turkish Super Lig.

The meeting will therefore present an important test for both sides, with Barcelona seeking to impose their possession-based attacking game and Galatasaray hoping to exploit the spaces behind their defence.

For Osimhen, the fixture offers an opportunity to make his mark on one of European football’s biggest stages after returning from injury.
