EandC Legal launches platform to support startup founders

EandC Legal has launched an initiative focused on the health, personal and business pressures confronting startup founders as they build and scale their companies.
The initiative, known as The Founder Room, provides a confidential platform combining candid conversations, medical consultations, mental health therapy, practical legal support and networking.
In a statement issued by the firm on Monday, EandC Legal said the inaugural edition was held on September 30 at its headquarters in Ikoyi, Lagos, under the theme, “The Things We Don’t Talk About.”
According to the firm, the initiative was created to provide founders with a safe environment to discuss pressures often hidden behind business growth, funding, revenue, and performance.
“The startup ecosystem is very good at asking founders about revenue, growth, funding, and traction. We do not ask often enough about the person carrying the business,” said the Founder and Lead Partner of EandC Legal, Omoruyi Edoigiawerie.
He said sustainable businesses could not be built indefinitely without paying attention to the wellbeing of their founders. “Strong businesses cannot be built indefinitely by broken people. The founder matters too,” Edoigiawerie said.
The inaugural session featured Dr Ikenna Onyebuchi, a consultant medical practitioner and public health specialist, who spoke on “Managing the Body That Builds the Business.”
Onyebuchi urged founders to recognise personal stressors, pay attention to warning signs and adopt sustainable practices around rest, nutrition, physical activity and recovery.
His presentation linked founder wellbeing directly to business performance, noting that prolonged stress and neglected health could affect judgement, productivity, leadership and organisational resilience.
The programme also provided general health and vital-sign checks, followed by individual consultations to help participants understand their immediate health indicators.
Founders were additionally offered private mental health therapy sessions conducted individually and confidentially, enabling participants to seek professional support away from the main gathering.
Participants discussed challenges including uncertainty, isolation, difficult partnerships, fear of failure and the pressure of managing employees, investors, customers and family responsibilities.
Edoigiawerie said the discussions demonstrated that founders sometimes require more than conventional business panels and networking opportunities.
“Sometimes, they need a trusted room, professional guidance and the reassurance that they are not carrying the journey alone,” he said.
The event also featured The Founder Legal Clinic, where participants received practical legal guidance, complimentary advisory sessions and legal templates aimed at strengthening business structures and corporate governance.
The firm said the initiative reflects its broader approach to addressing interconnected legal, governance, health and personal challenges affecting entrepreneurs and their businesses.
EandC Legal said it has worked with more than 1,000 founders and helped build over 300 startups, giving it insight into the relationship between founder wellbeing and business performance.
Cofounder and Managing Partner of EandC Legal, Ade Adekeye, said the initiative was developed as an intervention addressing the founder as a whole, rather than another networking platform.
Following the inaugural edition, the firm said The Founder Room would become a bimonthly initiative, with future editions focusing on difficult and often neglected issues confronting founders and high-growth businesses.
The evening ended with a dinner designed to provide participants with an opportunity to continue conversations and build relationships in a more relaxed setting.
