Ghana: Nigeria urges stronger Pan-African partnerships at African Women Conference
Nigeria has called for stronger Pan-African partnerships, the exchange of proven practices, and greater alignment between continental commitments, national policies, and grassroots implementation.
Nigeria’s Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Imam Sulaiman-Ibrahim, made the call in her remarks at the 10th anniversary edition of the Africa Women Conference (AWC) currently holding in Accra, Ghana.
She said a significant milestone was the endorsement by Nigeria’s Federal Executive Council on 28 October 2026 of three important national instruments, namely, the National Action Plan on Ending Violence Against Children, the National Policy on Menstrual Health and Hygiene Management, 2026–2030, and the National Care Policy and Implementation Plan, 2026–2030.
Dr Jumai Ahmadu, Convener, Africa Women Conference (AWC), in her welcome address at the event, said the theme of the 10th Anniversary Edition is “A Decade of Impact: From Commitments to Action—Advancing Justice, Economic Power and Leadership for African Women and Girls”.
She said the purpose of the conference is to bring together women leaders, policymakers, development partners, entrepreneurs, academics, civil society organisations, traditional institutions and young people to develop practical solutions for the advancement of African women and girls.
Dr Ahmadu said AWC has consistently provided a platform for their voices to be heard, their experiences to shape policy conversations, their enterprises to gain visibility, and their leadership potential to be strengthened.
Speakers at the 2-day event include Princess Hauwa Tanimu Aduda, CEO of Phinada Group of Companies and Founder of PHPA Grassroot Girls STEM Alliance, who is Chairperson of the AWC 10th Anniversary Edition.
Others are Mrs Ngozi Oyewole, President of Commonwealth Business Women Africa, Ambassador Jacquelin Mohair from Atlanta, and Dr Cecilia Idika-Kalu, a Global Security and Gender scholar.
A Conference Sub-theme Paper will be delivered by Her Highness Hajiya Hawa Kulu Ibrahim, wife of His Royal Majesty Alhaji (Dr) Adamu Baba Yunusa, Ona of Abaji and Chairman, FCT Council of Chiefs.
