Ex-G15 Members in Kwara Central Defect to APC, Back Governor AbdulRazaq

A group of former members and grassroots organisers associated with the G15 political group in Kwara Central have rejoined the All Progressives Congress (APC). The returnees, drawn from the four local government areas of the zone, announced their decision in Ilorin and declared backing for Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the party's governorship candidate Engr. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, and other APC candidates.
The group's spokesman, Alh Abdulwahab Ajibola, told journalists that the move followed what he described as a careful review of their political experiences and activities within the G15. He said the returnees had previously worked across the four Kwara Central LGAs in support of prominent figures linked to the G15, including Senator Saliu Mustapha, Senator Yahaya Oloriegbe, Amb. Yahaya Seriki, and Hon. Yinka Aluko, among others.
Ajibola explained that their grassroots work had involved organising meetings, engaging youths and women, visiting communities, coordinating supporters, and mobilising voters during past political activities. According to him, those experiences gave them a clearer understanding of the political realities in their communities. He added that their return to the APC was based on an assessment of where their skills and networks could be most effectively used.
He alleged that the G15 project had, in their view, progressively moved away from the collective interests of ordinary Kwarans and towards the personal political ambitions and calculations of certain individuals.
"We have returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC) under the leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. We have returned to the mainstream of our party and to the political family where we believe our energy, experience and grassroots networks can be deployed towards something bigger than individual ambition," Ajibola said.
The group expressed full support for Governor AbdulRazaq and endorsed Engr. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu as the APC governorship candidate, along with all other duly nominated party candidates in the coming general elections.
Ajibola stressed that the decision was not driven by promises of political appointments or other rewards, but by their experiences and reflections from years of grassroots political activity.
"We are returning to the political family where we believe our collective strength can be used for the advancement of our state. We recognise the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Abdul Rahman Abdul Razaq, CON, and we acknowledge the efforts of his administration in moving Kwara forward," he said.
He also noted that disagreements may arise from time to time, describing this as normal in politics, but insisted that differences should not be used as a reason to destroy the political platform through which the people have entrusted leadership.
The former G15 members called on those still associated with the group to embrace reconciliation and dialogue, urging them to set aside political differences and prioritise what they described as the collective interests of Kwara State.
In his remarks, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Political Matters, Prince Sulaiman Abubakar (Sai Kai), welcomed the returnees and commended them for taking what he called a bold step back into the APC. He assured them of a level playing field under Governor AbdulRazaq's leadership.
