Tinubu Hails Alake At 70, Calls Him Loyal, Forthright Ally

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has described the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, as a loyal, forthright and committed ally as he celebrates his 70th birthday.

In a tribute personally signed by him on Monday President Tinubu said his several decades of close relationship with the minister had given him a deep understanding of his character and commitment.

“In my several decades of very close relationship with Dele Alake, I have known him as a steady hand, a forthright, upright, loyal, and committed ally,” the President said.

Tinubu described Alake as a straightforward person whose position on issues was always clear.

“He is straight and unequivocal. You always know where he stands on issues,” he said.

The President congratulated the minister on attaining the age of 70, joining the group of septuagenarians, and extended his goodwill to Alake’s family, friends and associates.

Tinubu praised Alake’s professional and public service record, describing him as a hardworking and results-oriented person with a strong commitment to equity and social justice.

He particularly recalled Alake’s career in journalism, where he spent most of his professional life, saying the minister distinguished himself as a frontline journalist and editor.

According to the President, Alake used his position and his pen to confront the challenges confronting Nigeria, particularly during the years of military rule.

“During Nigeria’s darkest hours under military rule, he was a journalist of conscience who fought on the front lines against dictatorship and abuse of human rights, and for the restoration of democratic governance,” Tinubu said.

The President also recalled Alake’s service as his Commissioner for Information and Strategy in Lagos State for eight years, saying he brought creativity and enterprise to the role.

Tinubu said Alake helped redefine government information management and became an example of political strategy and public communication.

He also commended the minister’s performance in the solid minerals sector, saying his ability to operate effectively in unfamiliar and challenging environments had contributed to his achievements.

Tinubu noted that Alake’s work as Minister of Solid Minerals Development had continued to attract local and international recognition, including his role as Chairman of the Africa Minerals Strategy Group.

The President prayed for Alake to enjoy more years in good health as he continues his service to God, Nigeria and humanity.

“Happy birthday and many happy returns to my confidante, brother, and buddy,” Tinubu said.
