IBB Urges Politicians To Prioritise National Unity, Peace

Former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, popularly known as IBB, has urged politicians to place national unity, peace and the collective interest of Nigerians above personal and partisan considerations as political campaigns gather momentum.

Babangida made the call when members of the Presidential and Gubernatorial Campaign Council of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Niger State paid him a courtesy visit at his residence in Minna.

The former Nigerian leader stressed that national unity and the collective interest of the country should take precedence over individual ambitions and political interests, particularly during the electioneering period.

He also emphasised the need for politicians and their supporters to embrace peace, tolerance and mutual respect, warning against actions and utterances capable of creating tension and undermining peaceful coexistence.

Babangida further offered prayers for Niger State and Nigeria, expressing the hope that the electioneering process would be peaceful and successful.

The Director-General of the Campaign Council and former Deputy Governor of Niger State, Ambassador Ahmed Musa Ibeto, who led the delegation, expressed appreciation to the former military leader for his words of advice and prayers.

Ibeto assured Babangida that the APC and the Presidential and Gubernatorial Campaign Council (PGCC) would work towards ensuring that their campaigns remained issue-based, development-oriented and focused on the overall interest of Niger State.

He further pledged that the unity of the people, peaceful coexistence and the promotion of development would remain central to the council’s activities throughout the electioneering period.

The visit underscores the importance of engaging political stakeholders and influential leaders in promoting peaceful political participation, constructive campaigns and national cohesion, especially as political activities intensify.
