Tuchel Says England May Need A Decade To Replace Kane

England head coach Thomas Tuchel has warned that Harry Kane will be extremely difficult to replace and that finding a similar striker could take up to 10 years.

Ahead of England’s UEFA Nations League fixture against Croatia, Tuchel underlined Kane’s rare qualities.

The Bayern Munich captain recently scored his 87th goal for England in a 2-0 win over Czechia. He now needs 13 more to reach 100 international goals for the Three Lions.

Tuchel said attempting to find a carbon copy of Kane would be futile. According to him, it could take a decade to discover another forward who combines top-level finishing with the ability to drop deep, link attacks and lead the line.

The England boss explained that Kane sets the standard by pushing his teammates and has turned himself into an exceptionally hard-working forward to go with his scoring ability.

Tuchel also revealed that England have been testing alternative tactical plans. In recent games, Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham has been used as an emergency centre-forward, including finishing one match in the No. 9 role. Tuchel praised Bellingham’s eye for goal and desire but made clear he is not a straight swap for Kane.

The manager said England will eventually find a solution, but it will not be Kane or a replica of him. He added that the answer may come when he is no longer in charge, possibly as far as 10 years from now. England, he stressed, will need to evolve with different tactical solutions rather than waiting for a like-for-like successor.
