Anti-party allegations split Ondo APC

Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is divided over alleged anti-party activities ahead of the 2027 general elections as some members of the state executive committee and political appointees of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa have been accused of working against candidates recognised by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).

The development has heightened tension within the ruling party, particularly following controversies surrounding the National Assembly primaries and the subsequent review of some candidates’ names by the national leadership.

The allegations come amid claims that Aiyedatiwa is backing some politicians who lost the APC primaries to contest the 2027 elections on the platform of opposition parties, including the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the coalition associated with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The latest controversy followed the campaign rally of the SDP candidate for the Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency, Hon. Tajudeen Adefisoye, popularly known as Small Alhaji, in Idanre on October 6.

Adefisoye, a former member of the House of Representatives, formally commenced his campaign with party leaders, supporters and other stakeholders in attendance.

An APC chieftain in Idanre, who spoke on condition of anonymity, alleged that several political appointees of Aiyedatiwa attended the rally, with some allegedly wearing SDP colours.

The chieftain said, “On Tuesday, when Hon. Adefisoye held a rally in Idanre, many of Aiyedatiwa’s aides attended. They did not even hide it; they also wore SDP attire. We have their photographs and videos.

However, Aiyedatiwa has repeatedly denied sponsoring candidates against the APC, insisting that he remains committed to the party and President Bola Tinubu’s re-election.
