Tinubu Returns to Nigeria, Says He Enjoyed European Vacation
President Bola Tinubu has described his month-long vacation in Europe as enjoyable, speaking to journalists shortly after his arrival at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Tuesday evening.
When a reporter asked how his vacation went, Tinubu replied, "I enjoyed myself." He was accompanied by Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, Speaker of the House of Representatives Abas Tajudeen, and Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos and AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara.
Addressing speculation about his health during his time abroad, the President said, "Rumours will always emanate from politics. The fact remains that I'm here, healthy, sound and ready to go. Ready to kick, ready to walk. There's nothing wrong."
The aircraft carrying him landed at the Lagos airport at about 6pm.
Tinubu left Abuja on August 30 and spent roughly a week in London before proceeding to Paris, where he engaged in several activities, including a private dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron and meetings with business leaders.
Earlier on Tuesday, presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga said Tinubu opted to return through Lagos first in order to honour the memory of Chief MKO Abiola.
The President is scheduled to attend the October 1 premiere of a film celebrating the late Abiola at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre in Lagos. While in Lagos, he is also expected to hold meetings with political leaders and associates before heading back to Abuja.
His prolonged stay in Europe had sparked speculation and pressure from opposition parties, who demanded to know his whereabouts. Onanuga had previously announced that the vacation was extended "by a few days" and insisted that the President was in good health.
