Benue NDC Ward Chairman Allegedly Killed in Fiidi

The Benue State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has said that Hon. Igbu Job Terhemen, who chaired the party's Fiidi Council Ward in Makurdi Local Government Area, died after being bound with ropes and given an injection of a substance feared to be poisonous.

The party alleged that suspected hoodlums carried out the attack, tied him up, administered the injection and then abandoned him close to the NNPC depot on the Makurdi-Otukpo Road.

According to the NDC, Igbu was subsequently found barely conscious. He was said to have been unable to speak or communicate with anyone before he died.

Ohini Ojegbe, the party's state chairman, condemned the killing as a “broad-daylight evil” and pressed security agencies to move quickly on the matter, arrest everyone involved and make sure they answer for it in court.

A statement released by the State NDC Publicity Secretary, Agile Ordedoo Bem, remembered the deceased as a loyal and hardworking party member. It said the NDC would feel the loss of his contributions to its growth keenly, especially at a moment when his dedication and service were needed most.

The statement added: “The NDC extends its condolences to the immediate family of the deceased, the Fiidi community, and the entire NDC family, praying that God will comfort them and grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”

DSP Peter Orchia Aondongu, spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, told reporters he had not yet received a briefing on what happened.

“I will call DPO E-Division to confirm the incident. I will get back to you,” he said.
