Okpebholo Says He Began Casting Out Demons At 17, Ties It To Anti-Cultism Drive

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has disclosed that he was already casting out demons by the time he was 17 or 18 years old, drawing a link between that early religious involvement and his current push against insecurity and cultism in the state.

Okpebholo spoke during a Sunday service held at The VOTAGE Church, also called The Voice of This Age, located at the WINLOS Centre in Benin City. A video clip of his comments began circulating widely on social media on Tuesday.

"When I see young ones standing in the presence of God, I remember at the age of 17/18, I've also started casting out demons," the governor told the congregation.

He went on to say that confronting insecurity, particularly cultism, is not something new to him, describing it as an activity he has long been engaged in.

The VOTAGE Church acknowledged the governor's presence at the service in a Sunday Instagram post, stating that it was honoured to receive him. According to the church, the gathering was devoted to praying for peace, progress and prosperity in Edo State, and it expressed gratitude to the governor for joining the congregation in worship.

In a separate post on X, Okpebholo also confirmed he attended the service. He said he had worshipped earlier at Living Faith Church on Sapele Road before proceeding to The VOTAGE Church in Benin City.

The governor noted that prayers were offered for sustained peace and protection over Edo State, for wisdom and strength for those holding positions of leadership, and for God's blessings upon the people and families of the state.
