Klitschko Files Emergency Petition to Guard Daughter's Inheritance After Panettiere's Death
Wladimir Klitschko, the former heavyweight boxing champion who now serves as Mayor of Kyiv, has initiated legal proceedings in California following the death of his ex-fiancée, actress Hayden Panettiere. The action is intended to safeguard the inheritance of their 11-year-old daughter, Kaya.
Klitschko lodged an urgent petition on September 24, seeking appointment as temporary guardian of Panettiere's estate. In the filing, he argues that under California probate law, the assets belong entirely to their daughter.
The petition raises serious concerns about missing property. Klitschko states he was told that personal belongings and jewellery had vanished and remain unaccounted for.
He cautioned that there is a "high probability that property belonging to Hayden's Estate may be lost, damaged or dissipated before a duly appointed personal representative can be in place to protect it".
The court documents also point to earlier security worries. They note that Panettiere had documented fears before her death about an unauthorised person gaining access to her home.
Klitschko said: "It is expected that the individual will continue to try and misappropriate property belonging to Hayden's estate. Given the high publicity of Hayden's estate, a personal representative needs to be appointed immediately to safeguard and protect Hayden's home and contents."
Panettiere was discovered unresponsive at a residence in Greenville, South Carolina, on August 16. First responders attempted resuscitation but were unsuccessful, and she was declared dead at the scene. She was 36 years old.
The Greenville County Coroner's Office later determined that her death resulted from an accidental overdose involving fentanyl and other prescription medications. A court hearing on Klitschko's emergency guardianship request has been set to consider the preservation of the estate.
