Man Allegedly Stabs Neighbour To Death Over Roasted Meat In Adamawa

A 28-year-old man, Ibrahim Augustine, has been arrested by the Adamawa State Police Command for allegedly stabbing his 21-year-old neighbour, Haggai Markus, to death following a disagreement over roasted meat in Mubi North Local Government Area of the state.

The incident reportedly occurred around 8pm on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, at Mararaban Vimtim.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroji, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, saying the disagreement allegedly started over roasted meat taken from a butcher’s table before escalating into a fatal confrontation.

According to him, Augustine allegedly brought out a knife during the argument and stabbed Markus in the chest.

“In the course of the misunderstanding, the suspect allegedly used a knife and stabbed the victim in the chest,” the statement said.

Nguroji said the police received a report of the incident around 8:45pm from the deceased’s father, identified as Markus Gabo.

Following the report, operatives attached to the Mubi North Divisional Police Headquarters visited the scene and found Markus lying dead in a pool of blood.

The police spokesperson said a knife suspected to have been used in the attack was recovered, while the suspect was arrested and taken into custody.

“One sharp knife was recovered as exhibit, and the suspect was apprehended and taken into custody. Photographs of the scene were taken. The corpse was evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre, Mubi, where a medical doctor confirmed the victim dead,” the statement added.

The command said the suspect and the case diary would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Command, CP Kabir Hassan, commiserated with the family of the deceased and assured residents that justice would be served.

Hassan also cautioned residents against resorting to violence during disagreements, urging them to embrace peaceful means of resolving disputes and report cases to the police where necessary.
