FG’s ₦50,000 Support: Step-By-Step Guide For OPay Users To Get The Funds

The federal government has commenced the disbursement of ₦50,000 monthly cash support to selected vulnerable Nigerians under its National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI).

The programme, launched on October 30, 2026, is designed to provide financial assistance to poor and vulnerable households struggling with the rising cost of living and inflation.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Bernard Doro, announced that the intervention would provide direct financial support to eligible beneficiaries through approved digital financial service providers.

One of the approved payment providers is OPay, which has announced a process through which selected beneficiaries can check their eligibility and accept the payment.

For Nigerians using OPay, here is how to check eligibility and access the ₦50,000 support.

How To Check Your Eligibility Through OPay

2. Follow the instructions: Select the appropriate option and follow the prompts to check your eligibility and accept the support.

3. Use the OPay application: Alternatively, log in to your OPay application and check the homepage for a notification indicating that you have been selected.

Who Is Eligible For The ₦50,000 Support?

According to the Federal Government’s NERSI programme guidelines, beneficiaries are selected from verified national identity records and the National Social Register.

The intervention targets poor and vulnerable households across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

However, the government says beneficiaries cannot independently apply or pay to be included on the list. Selection is based on verified records and screening processes.

Payments are also being made in phases, meaning eligible Nigerians may not receive notifications at the same time.

Is The ₦50,000 Support Free?

Yes. The Federal Government says beneficiaries are not required to pay any registration, processing or activation fees to receive the money.

The government has also warned Nigerians against fraudsters who may demand money or personal information under the guise of facilitating the payment.

Beneficiaries are advised not to disclose their ATM PIN, one-time password (OTP) or other confidential banking details to anyone.

For enquiries or complaints about the programme, Nigerians can contact the official NERSI helpline on 0700-022-2222.

The ₦50,000 support is a government grant and does not have to be repaid.
