Airtel Money Prices London IPO at £1.96, Valuing Business at £5.3bn

Airtel Mobile Commerce N.V., which owns Airtel Money, has fixed the price for its planned initial public offering at £1.96 per share. On that basis, the business is estimated to be worth roughly £5.3 billion, or $7 billion, once its shares are admitted to the London Stock Exchange.
The offer price was made public on Thursday, October 1. It follows a September 23 announcement in which the company confirmed it would go ahead with an IPO.
Airtel Money intends to have its ordinary shares admitted to the London Stock Exchange's Main Market. Admission is currently anticipated for October 14, 2026. Conditional dealing is expected to start on October 9, 2026, with unconditional trading due to open at 8:00 a.m. London time on October 14.
Existing shareholders are expected to sell 270 million shares as part of the offer. A further 27 million shares could be sold if the over-allotment option is taken up in full.
Airtel Africa is not expected to offload existing shares in the offer, except where the over-allotment option applies. It is expected to stay on as a long-term strategic investor and to help drive Airtel Money's next stage of growth as a separately listed company.
The International Finance Corporation has agreed to join the offer, pledging to buy shares worth as much as £67.2 million ($90 million) from existing shareholders at the offer price.
Should the over-allotment option go unused, existing shareholders' present indications suggest that about 16.5% of Airtel Money's issued ordinary share capital would sit in public hands. That proportion could reach roughly 17.5% if the maximum number of extra shares available under the over-allotment option is purchased.
The prospectus is expected to be released on October 1 and will carry more information about the offer. The institutional offer is due to shut at 2:00 p.m. London time on October 8, with the UK retail offer closing at 5:00 p.m. London time on the same date.
Investors who are resident and physically present in the UK are the only ones able to take part in the retail offer. Applications will be made through participating investment platforms, retail brokers and wealth managers, and the smallest amount that can be applied for is £250.
According to Airtel Money, the free float it anticipates should qualify the company for inclusion in the FTSE UK indices.
After listing, Airtel Africa is expected to keep its position as a long-term strategic shareholder and to continue supporting Airtel Money's growth as an independently listed business.
Lock-up arrangements have been agreed in connection with the IPO. Airtel Money's shares are locked up for 180 days from admission, while directors face a 365-day lock-up and existing shareholders are bound for 180 days, in each case with certain exceptions.
A number of international investment banks are arranging the offer. Citigroup Global Markets Limited is acting as sole sponsor, lead left global coordinator and joint bookrunner.
Airtel Money said qualified institutional buyers in the United States will take part under Rule 144A. Certain institutional investors in the UK and in other jurisdictions outside the US will participate under Regulation S.
Conducted through RetailBook's partner network of investment platforms, retail brokers and wealth managers, the retail offer is confined to investors who are resident and physically present in the UK.
Airtel Africa has been working to separate and list its mobile money arm as a way of unlocking value from Airtel Money.
Airtel Money announced in September that it planned to list on the London Stock Exchange. The business posted revenue of $1.346 billion for the financial year ended March 2026.
In July 2026, the company confirmed London as its preferred venue for the listing, saying it would open the door to a wide international investor base. At that point, Airtel Money's annualised total payment value had passed $245 billion.
Mobile money has grown into an increasingly significant contributor to Airtel Africa's results. In the group's full-year figures for the year ended March 2026, mobile money brought in $1.08 billion of Airtel Africa's $6.4 billion revenue.
