Nigeria @ 66: Shun Corruption, Ondo Bishop Tells Leaders

The Catholic Bishop of Ondo Diocese, Most Rev. Jude Arogundade, has urged Nigerian leaders to shun corruption and ensure that the country’s resources benefit people at the grassroots.
Arogundade, in his assessment of Nigeria at 66, said the country had made significant progress since independence but could do better through unity, sincerity and responsible leadership.
The bishop urged Nigerians to consider the kind of nation they were building for future generations, warning against the mismanagement of the resources God had given the country.
Arogundade also urged governors to ensure that the wealth allocated to their states was reflected in the lives of people at the grassroots.
He said, “My assessment on Nigeria since 66 years of our independence is that we have move forward, we have done so many good things for ourselves, let’s not be so pessimistic of what we have done, but we can do better and that is the message I have for this nation.
”My message to our leaders is that they have to work hard and shun corruption, corruption is killing us. To the governors, the president has said it that they are taking so much from the national treasury, let us see the reflection of that in our various states because the wealth that did not go to the grass root is not a real wealth. It has to go to the grassroots and let them benefits from the wonderful wealth that God has given to this country.”
He also called for unity and collective commitment to nation-building, saying Nigeria had the youthful and intellectual capacity to achieve global prominence.
“If we are united in this country, and we work together to serve this country, I give this country ten years, we will dominate the world because we have the youths, intelligent people, some of the most refined people in the world,” he said.
