NDLEA seizes 10 tons of illicit drugs, 40 firearms, fake currencies

The Kogi State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has seized over 10 tons of illicit drugs and recovered 40 firearms and 874 cartridges from suspected drug dealers since late 2025.
The command also recovered counterfeit Naira, dollar, and Pound notes, as well as fake drugs, which have been handed over to relevant agencies for further investigation.
The State NDLEA Commander, Mr. Umar Yahuza, disclosed this in Lokoja while speaking with newsmen shortly after handing over the recovered arms and ammunition to the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW).
According to Yahuza, the recovered weapons comprise five pistols and 35 other firearms. He said several suspects were arrested in connection with drug trafficking and related offences within the period.
He added that many of the suspects are currently facing trial at the Federal High Court, Lokoja, with males accounting for over 80 percent of those standing trial.
Yahuza said the seized drugs include tramadol, cocaine, methamphetamine and cannabis sativa, with cannabis constituting the largest quantity.
He noted that some of the firearms were recovered from suspected dealers involved in cannabis cultivation, who acquired the weapons to confront security personnel during enforcement operations.
The NDLEA boss assured that the command would sustain its onslaught against drug dealers and other criminal elements, while urging members of the public to provide useful information to security agencies.
He advised residents against aiding criminals, stressing that illicit drug trafficking and abuse fuel insecurity, kidnapping and other crimes in the society.
